Mailed via British P.O. in Vera Cruz (Sept 4) and English Packet via London (Oct 2) and struck there with framed GB/1F 60c. Accountancy marking in black. Marked at upper left ´31´ (grams) and charged 40 decimes due on receipt.

MEXICO. After the fall and execution of Maximilian in June 1867, the Mexican government found itself without usable postage stamps. The next government issue appeared in September 1868. In the interim period, several towns issued provisional stamps. One of these was Cuernavaca, situated about 60 miles south of Mexico City. The catalogs list only one provisional. This is a cut-out of the double circle postmark with the district overprint...

HOLANDA. 1869 (April 29). Cover from Amsterdam to St. Petersburg/Russia bearing 1867 5c. blue and two 10c. carmine, red Amsterdam despatch cds at left. Blue crayon ´Wfr 2´ and red crayon ´3´ rate credits on front; reverse with ´Emmerich/Offenhausen´ transit. An unusual destination. Scott 7,8.
