Lot #52 - LARGE HERMES HEAD - 1861/1862 athens provisional printings
GREECE: 1862 entire letter fr. with 5l. greyish green + 10l. orange + 20l. deep blue (coarse impression) + 40l. mauve on blue (fine impression), 5 and 20l. superb, 10 and 40l. with faults, cancelled with dot. "67" and posted from "ΣΥΡΟΣ (67)*26 ΑΥΓ. 62" with orange boxed "ΠΕΔ", arr. "TRIESTE*11/9". Palte flaw "thin ircle" on 5l. and 20l. Nice multicolour combination. (Hellas 11Ia+12Ib+13Id+14IIa).
Lot #53 - LARGE HERMES HEAD - 1861/1862 athens provisional printings
GREECE: Letter sheet from Syros Oct 3rd, 1862 with a total of 30L. to Tripolis. The normal inland rate was 20L. but the transportation with a foreign vessel (in this case an austrian one) was 10L. more (only known to and from Syros). 1L. Provisional on cover are very rare, the 1L. Paris was applied later. Despite the added stamp an impressive and very rare franking. (Hellas 2a+9IIb+11Ib+13IIb).
