1931-33 Covers intended for air mail within the USA, the 1931 (Sep. 17) cover from Ganhati to Denver inscribed "Air Mail Karachi to Croydon and New York City to Denver, Colo." franked 9a with a 5c U.S Air mail stamp cancelled in both India and Denver. The 1933 (Oct. 7) cover from Bombay to Palo Alto franked 1a9p with an 8c U.S Air mail stamp applied but ringed as invalid, marked as 25c due, converted to 13 cents in the USA. Handstamped "T" and boxed "INSUFFICIENTLY PAID FOR / TRANSMISSION BY AIR MAIL" with 13c in U.S dues on the reverse, inscribed "Via Air Mail to Europe, Via Air Mail New York to California", correctly sent by surface to England as the India air postage was underpaid, the U.S air mail stamp for internal U.S air mail misunderstood in India and the cover incorrectly sent by surface within the USA. U.S Air mail stamps for air mail within the USA were available from consular offices in many overseas countries; their use from India is rare.
