Reverse bears Cardiff c.d.s. for 11th Jan 1845, transit via London with PAID tombstone mark, then 1s (red m/s) for payment in cash from UK and a 52 cent rate upon arrival in the US, obverse bears 'Boston/SHIP/FEB 2?' circular mark in red. 1847 Feb 5th envelope from Nottingham to Illston Grange, Kibworth, Leicestershire, franked 1d red brown Pl.69 PJ, three large margins, top margin a little close but not cut into, tied by a very fine barred oval numeral '583' for Nottingham struck in dark green (Nottingham well known for use of green ink) with a matching colour Nottingham c.d.s. (b/stamp), Spec.BS28xc, Cat. \xA3900.

1850 1d red brown GH, three margined example on a neat registered envelope from Fencehouses (blue c.d.s), Houghton Le Spring (blue udc) sent uncancelled to London and upon arrival cancelled with the red 'PAID' c.d.s. for 29th March 1850 - effectively a red c.d.s on a 1d red. A major rarity.

Very late use of this service & unusual on 1841 1d red entire.
