Large red arched handstamp with matching straight line "Duty Paid" handstamp on 1852 incoming double folded letter sheet from Bremen, Germany, with "Bremen, St.P.A., 4/11" origin and "New York, 20, Nov 23" transit postmarks, Very Fine, a very rare custom house marking, ex Haas.

San Francisco, Cal., Aug 10 (San Francisco). Cds (SAF-420) with matching clamshell "Ship 6" rate handstamp on incoming 1855 double folded letter sheet from Manila, Philippines, with correspondence "regarding friends in China", Very Fine, a rare incoming usage from Manila.

San Francisco, Cal., 29 Paid, Jul 21 (San Francisco). Red integral rate cds (Williams unlisted) on 1856 cover to Belfast, Ireland, with manuscript "29" rate reiterated, red "3" credit handstamp applied at New York and Liverpool transit cds, reverse with receiving postmark, Very Fine.

Cds tying 1857 10¢ green, type V on cover to Potsdam, N.Y. with "per Steamer Golden Age" endorsement, cover with attractive Oriental Hotel illustrated corner card showing Hotel View with Eastman & Loomis imprint, faint cover fold, Very Fine and attractive, ex Wiltsee.

Cds and target duplex on reverse of printed address cover to Townsend, Mass., front with matching "Held For Postage" handstamp and blue private "Steamer" handstamp, with original 1866 enclosure, Extremely Fine, a choice strike of this uncommon auxillary marking.

Silver Mountain, Cal., Sep 15 (Alpline). Complete cds (ALP-230) on cover addressed to Copperopolis "via Murphy Camp" in Calaveras County (This would have taken this cover over Ebbetts Pass - elevation 8730'), franked with 1861, 3¢ rose (s.e. left and bottom) tied by circle of wedges handstamp; cover slightly reduced at right, otherwise Very Fine.

Sonora, Cal. (Tuolumne). First cds type (TUO-1380) in three folded letters from correspondence; includes two to Bothbay, Me., one postmark in red and other in black with different style "10" in circle rate handstamps, other to San Francisco with "5" in circle rate handstamp; some toning or soiling, F.-V.F.

Stockton, Cal., Mar 19 (San Joaquin). Blue cds (SAJ-2310) with matching oval "12½" intra-California rate handstamp on 1851 folded letter to "Sonora, U.C.", letter datelined "Owen's Ranch, Tuolumne, March 15, 51" with interesting comment from miner…I know a beautiful place in the mountains for a farm and mill, but unless a man could conciliate the indians by marrying two or three squaws, or otherwise he could not stay there.,...

Stockton Cal. May 3 (San Joaquin). Four strikes of cds tie 1¢ blue, type IV (9), strip of six and strip of three, on orange cover to Windsor, N.C., upon arrival forwarded to Merry Hill with blue "Windsor N.C. Jun 4" cds and manuscript "for 3cts" due rating; some faults including one 1¢ stamp appears missing at top right although possibly paid in cash, purple owner's handstamps, Fine and scarce franking.
