1863 Cover and 1866 front with upper flap both from Calcutta to London, the cover franked 1856-64 2a and 4a, the front unusually franked 1860 8p and 1865 2a, 4a and 8a pair. (2).

1867 Cover from Bombay to Poona bearing 1/2a blue strip of four, 1a brown and 4a green each cancelled by numeral "1" within a diamond of bars, also tied by the Poona arrival c.d.s, with superb horseshoe type "BOMBAY P.O / 1867 / 2 NOV / REGISTERED No."; and a tiny cover from Madras to Arcot franked on the reverse by 1/2a blue (2, faults) each tied by diamond cancel, with the similar horseshoe type "MADRAS G.P.O / 1867 / JU 27 / REGN No"....

1913 KGV 1a Die Proof in black on white glazed card, 92x60mm, endorsed and dated "after striking, 10/11/13" and initialled, a fine De La Rue proof. Photo on Page 143.

1911 KGV 1a Carmine, upper left corner block of forty (8x5), horizontal gutter separating rows 4 and 5, each stamp overprinted "CANCELLED" (Samuel type 25), a few split perforations above the lower row and some buckling to the vertical perforations between columns 2/3 and 6/7, otherwise fine unmounted mint, a scarce and impressively large block from the printers archives. Also a single 1a with larger diagonal "CANCELLED" overprint. (41)....

1911 KGV 1a and 1921 9p on 1a, mint and used selection including State and military overprints, with 1r booklet complete (S.G. SB9, two 1/2a panes with faults) and 1r2a booklet cover and adverts (S.G. SB13, no stamps), Mafia overprints (S.G. M35, M45, £185) both fine mint, Gwalior State postage and Service overprints double mint (S.G. £100), 9p surcharge double mint and "PIES PIES" error used (both with faults), etc. (49 + 2 booklets).

1912 KGV 1a Rose-carmine Service overprint upper right corner marginal pair, a pre-printing paper fold resulting in the corner stamp having a large void corner, this part of the design printed on the reverse gummed side, the stamps unmounted, very unusual. Photo on Page 141.

1921 1r2a Stamp booklet containing 24 9p on 1a stamps in six panes of four, the lower right stamp on each pane with the variety "P.IES", clearly a constant variety and very unusual, the booklet cover with the usual staple rust marks, otherwise fine and possibly unique with this surcharge variety on all panes. S.G. SB13.

1858 Cover from Cawnpore to England charged 6d with boxed "INDIA UNPAID, Cawnpore, Calcutta and London datestamps. A small hole to the address panel and edge staining, explained by the cachet "Saved from the wreck / of the Ava" on the reverse. The P.&O. "Ava" struck rocks and sank on February 10th, eighty miles off Trincomalee; the mail was subsequently recovered by divers. Photo on Page 145.

1917 Cover from Bournemouth to Calcutta, the stamp washed off and a little stained, with oval "ACCIDENT AT SEA / MONGOLIA / 23 6 17". The P.&O. "Mongolia" struck a mine 60 miles off Bombay and sank with the loss of 23 lives.

Hyderabad. 1900 5a Postal stationery envelope unusually used to London, invalid for use outside the state, therefore handstamped "HYDERABAD DECCAN / 1 ANNA DUE" with a 2d charge mark of the London Foreign Branch, a few minor faults, an unusual use.
