Mesopotamia - Siege of Kut. 1915 Wrapper franked 2 1/2d (Cox perfin) from London to an Officer in Mesopotamia handstamped scarce violet "UNDELIVERED THROUGH / CAPITULATION AT KUT" with two "P. OF. W / c/o INDIA OFFICE" cachets in black. Kut surrendered to the Turks in April 1916 after a siege of 144 days. Photo on Page 73.

P.O.Ws in Turkey. 1916-17 Postcards from British P.O.Ws in Kostamuni (2) or Bilmedik-Pozanti (2); 1916 Hellenic Red Cross card from Athens, posted in London, informing the addressee they have forwarded her letter to her son, a P.O.W in Turkey; 1917 Swiss card from Dr Vischer, the Swiss Red Cross delegate sent to inspect P.O.W Camps in Turkey, to the wife of Brig. General Smith in India reporting his visit to Smith at Brusa P.O.W camp; and...

POW Mail. Thirteen pages from a WW1 album, an attractive title page with flags and stamps of the combatant nations, the other 12 pages bearing 31 cards or letters from P.O.Ws in Germany or Austria, most to Miss Ord in Co. Durham thanking her for parcels. An interesting lot from various nationalities, most cards glued down at the lower edge only and could be removed from the pages reasonably easily with a little care.

1940-44 Covers detained by British or US censors and released after the war with 1940 Portugal cover and 1941 Swiss cover both to New York handstamped "HELD BY BRITISH CENS / RELEASED MAR. 1946" and "RELEASED" or "HELD BY BRITISH CENSOR / RELEASED JANUARY 1946", etc. (4).
