Gilbert & Ellice Is illustrated Japanese naval letter-sheet to Tokyo written in autumn of 1942, censored by "Kinoshi Ta", from a member of the 'U66' unit, being the Tarawa 'U233' Special Base Unit which collapsed following the Battle of Tarawa in November 1943. Very scarce usage from Tarawa. The lot includes a translation of the internal message.

New Guinea 1942 (Nov 9) use of Japanese Orange Helmet & Dove Military Postal Card to Chita-Gun, Aichi Prefecture from soldier Tanehiro Harada Numa 8929 Unit being the Communication Unit of 38th Infantry Division, South Sea Expeditionary Force. The Card is censored by "Irie" & has manuscript "18.11.25" (25 Nov 43) arrival annotation in red crayon, fine condition.

New Guinea 1943 Military Postal Card showing beach scene at Penkchin (China) with passing ship in background sent to to Chita-Gun, Aichi Prefecture from Army Surgeon-Lieutenant Tanehiro Harada, Numa 8921 unit, South Sea E.F. (HQ 38 Division in Rabaul), circular censor chop of Tuchiya in orange, manuscript "18.5.12" (12 May 43) in red crayon applied upon receipt. Lovely item.

[Following Japanese surrender in August 1945, Australian Forces were surprised to find a complete Japanese division stationed at Rabaul. Between February and 7th May 1946 a Japanese FPO was allowed to...

Truk Island (Micronesia) c. 1943 PPC from Hideo Karasawa, U50 (Truk Is) U88 (4th Port Dept), Yokokosua PO to Tokyo, censored by "Hiratuka", message reads that sender has no access to radio, that he is isolated from news and wants to be sent a newspaper, fine condition.

Wake Island c.1941 Japanese naval stationery card written by a soldier serving in 'U103' Unit which served on Wake Island as Unit 'U100' being the 65th Guard Unit, and addressed to his wife in Sakata-Gun, Shiga Prefecture, the card is censored by "Shikaya". The lot includes a translation of the message plus additional reference notes on the Japanese campaign in the Pacific.
