1700 Entire letter from Tripoli to Vernacia & Devanzat in Livorno endorsed "Voy de Chipro", fine and scarce. The Vernacia/Venturini archive contained just three letters, from Tripoli, Acre or Aleppo, that were inscribed to go via Cyprus.

1718 (Aug 26/Oct 20) Entire letter from L. Ballatini and Gio Garmogliesi, written in Italian to Nicolo Caragianni in Venice, carried on the ship "Brailli", with the arrival handstamp "VEN / DA MAR" featuring the Lion of St. Mark. A rare handstamp on mail from Cyprus; the Warwick collection having contained one other example on a letter from the same correspondence (Argyll Etkin, 12 Nov. 2010, lot 1020). Photo on Page 94.

1725-62 Entire letters from Cyprus comprising 1725 entire letter to Nicolo Carogiani in Venice endorsed with the name of the ship£s Captain; 1750 entire letter from Larnaca to Pietro Onovato Roux in Marseille, possibly disinfected; 1759 entire letter to Michelo Claverie in Marseille; and a disinfected 1762 entire letter without an address panel, all fine. 1773 (Oct 5) Entire letter written in Arabic, from Hadji Bashiga, Bey of Nicosia, a letter of recommendation for two Turks proceeding to Russia via Alexandria. One internal panel contains notes in Italian on the contents, date and addressee, and the intaglio handstamp of a signet ring. A rare early Ottoman letter. Photo on Page 96.

1780 (Feb 26) Entire letter from the Archbishop of Nicosia written and addressed in Greek, signed by the Archbishop in red ink, the reverse with a wax seal impressed with the seal of the Archbishop. Only the Archbishop of Nicosia and Patriarch of Constantinople in the Orthodox Church had the privilege of signing in red ink. Minor staining, possibly disinfected, otherwise fine and an interesting historical letter. Photo on Page 96.

1875 Large part letter (the side portions removed) to England with senders cachet, blue oval "PANTAS / BASILIADIS / TRIESTE" F.A.C, a Trieste datestamp and "T" mark, charged 5d upon arrival, backstamped at Bridport. An unusual forwarded letter and an early use of the "T" handstamp on postage due mail.
