1911 (Feb 18) Allahabad First Aerial Post cover, addressed by Capt. Walter Windham to "E. Perrin Esq., R. Aero Club, Piccadilly, London" bearing KEVII 3p (2) and 1/2a each tied by the special pictorial Aerial Post cancel in magenta, backstamped at Allahabad (Feb. 19), Bombay and London (Mar. 10). Enclosed is a printed card "London Address: 30, Evelyn Gardens, S.W. I have the honour to ask you if you will kindly accept this letter-card as a souvenir of the first official aerial post which was despatched from the U.P Exhibition, Allahabad, officially sanctioned, and carried by an aeroplane under Government Post Office Regulations on 20th February 1911", signed W. Windham. A few light stain spots, otherwise fine and very scarce. We have only recorded two other examples of these printed and signed cards from the organiser of the aerial post, Walter Windham; one sold in the 11th November 2011 Argyll Etkin auction (lot 1050) for £3,100 + premium.
