Worldwide Stamps and Postal History

1919 Folded card with a Union Jack on the front containing a picture of King George V and printed thanks for services in the war in Indian script, the reverse bearing I.E.F 1/2a and G.E.A 1c and 3c each tied by the very scarce "MAIL AGENCY / No. 3" c.d.s (Feb. 5), a fourth strike below. Proud records this F.P.O used in May 1918 and on this date in 1919.

1937 (Apr 7) Cover from London to Nairobi, water stained with the stamp washed off, handstamped violet "DAMAGED BY SEA WATER", with a Nairobi arrival c.d.s (Apr 26) below. Not recorded by Gwynn & Hoggarth in "Maritime Disaster Mail", probably the result of a mishap whilst being transferred to or from a ship in England or at Mombassa, where mail was often transhipped to lighters for transfer to shore. 1974 Covers from Germany or Greece to South Africa both with the red bilingual cachet "RETRIEVED FROM AIR CRASH ON 20 / NOVEMBER 1974 AT NAIROBI". The Lufthansa plane from Frankfurt crashed upon taking off at Nairobi killing 59 people. Also a c.1993 cover from Kenya to England with the red boxed cachet "RECEIVED DAMAGED / BY WATER / FIRE" with "Fire" crossed out in manuscript. (3).

Set of three perfined "SPECIMEN", mint and used, in mint blocks of four, 20c unmounted with broken leaf variety, set on F.D.C and other covers including "MOMBASA EXHIBITION / 1937" skeleton datestamp, set on registered 1937 (Nov 24) cover to New Zealand with "Received in damaged / condition at Auckland" cachets and N.Z Officially Sealed labels on all four sides, etc. S.G. £212 + covers. Imperforate frame proofs on white paper with horizontal blue lines, comprising 1/- brown block of four, 10/- blue pair, and 20c orange blocks of four (2, one with reversed "6" in margin), block of eight and a block of 14 with imprint and plate number "10A" in margin, dated "16/4/52" in manuscript. Also 3/- ultramarine vignette, imperforate vertical pair on white paper (vertical fold). An interesting group of proofs from the De La Rue...

5c Single and a block of four with De La Rue imprint and a 10c block of four, the 5c stamps with much gum, a little paper adhering to the reverse, the 10c block stuck down on paper, each stamp with local violet "SPECIMEN" handstamp, Samuel type K4. From the two unique sheets of 100 (the 5c plate 5 - 3A and the 10c plate 9 - 7B), the 5c the unique imprint block; with photocopies of both sheets and the 1997 B.P.A Certificates issued for each...

c.1954 Presentation folder, the card cover entitled "Postage Stamps of Kenya Uganda Tanganyika" below the royal arms, containing 1c - £1 set of 15 (all the first colours issued), lightly mounted with hinges.

1942 1c Black and chocolate-brown, frame plate 2-2, head plate 4A, a complete unmounted mint sheet of 100 including the varieties retouched value tablet (9/6, S.G. 131ad), break in birds breast (2/5, S.G. 131ae), double frame line at right (1/10), etc. S.G. 131a, £165+.
